Libby's Story
|
Libby was first brought to our attention right after Christmas. Here are the first pictures I was sent. Her name was Trouble and we were leery just because of her name. I asked why would anyone give a dog that name as it cut her chances of help to almost nil. Then I looked at the picture closely. Now I had a big clue that she may be pregnant and someones humor or ignorance was at work. Well about a week later she was confirmed pregnant. Well now she done got herself into "TROUBLE". God how many times have we heard that stupidity over the years. Of course the owners never spayed them and God forbid we would ruin the boys by snipping off their best friends. By this point she was a little to far along to terminate. Yes we make those hard calls sometimes. Not that it's ever talked about. Sorry I'm honest and we talk about tough stuff here, and we don't lie about it or try and hide it. No it's never nice or pleasant, it's reality. No one ever said life was fair. So we start to make arrangements. Thought we were all set and it fell through. So Trouble now changed to Libby as I liberated her from a rotten name was waiting and growing. She was safe and cared for. - Many of you know at this point I was raising other litters and had a house with Kennel cough. As ususal, nuts. Not safe for an expecting mom plus it was the holidays. I get a note again about Libby, I fret, don't sleep, stew and fret some more. Well Hollys pups were due to go home in 2 weeks the cough had stopped we could wing this and help a transport was coming Friday the 15th. Holy canoli if you saw what stepped out to greet me. How about a wine barrel about to explode. Good doG almighty. I expected her to have them on the ride home. That was Friday and Saturday we had meet and greets for prospective adopters of Hollys pups and what was I thinking. Holly was having her interview Sunday the 17th and I was just saying Sunday , no vets on call she is way to stuffed, gotta be at least 10 if not 12 in there. Dan calls from the other room kick the guests out we have a pup being born. So no tact I open the door and say you gotta go. Real professional moment. That was at 4pm. Libby labored on through the night to give us 12 of the most mixed litter I have ever been honored to whelp. She was not an ounce of "trouble" and she got them all out on her own eating vanilla ice cream to help . Ate the whole half gallon but it works. So with a school holiday and our sons sleepover going on we managed to still have french toast for breakfast. Mind you when the kids left I reclined and declined any and all contact with the world. So meet Libby and the "cheaper by the dozen litter" |

| Imagine our surprise as we saw a black tail and then a white foot and them a spot and gosh we had a cow! Originally Cowgirl, now Annie Oakley the most famous of cowgirls. Annie has been chosen already so she is only available to gaze at. She is so fun to look at. Great temperament too. | ||

| A little male .. clearly Annies true brother, not as much color just a splotch here and there. His pigment is coming in too. Right now all he has is that little Hitler mustache thing going on. Have no idea if muzzle will become all black or not. | ||

Well folks this is a varied litter with clearly 3 or 4 different dads. If there isn't something here that steals your heart, just wait. We are sure our next litter may be more lab than lab not. But I do not discriminate when it come to a mother in need. That's what keeps the zoo a zoo. Look we got cows, boxers, and blonds what more can we offer you, but blessings. Merri, Dan and the whole motley crew at the zoo! |
