1/30/10: Good Day Friends. Here it is, the latest and greatest news to hit the zoo! 2009 was a year that flew by, never saw anything move that fast. I must be getting old, because I certainly felt like I wasn't keeping up with it all.
For Instance this letter is coming late, but I was waiting for a miracle to share. Yes, every day God has blessed this rescue with many miracles if we are not too busy to spot them. This one is huge! And it came on letterhead.
Are you ready???? We are now a 501c3 non-profit charitable entity!!!!!!!!!!! YaHoo. This had been an ongoing battle of us verses "them". Well this tenacious old pitt bull with tons of help from Sylvia a lawyer lady that made the mistake of saying "if there is anything I can ever do for you" got the official letter on Tuesday of this week. I'd like to give you the mental picture of the happy dance and the joy and silliness that went on but I wouldn't want to ruin the moment.
Seriously this is big. We have climbed the mountain and reached the top. Now the sky is reachable and we are flying high.
What does this mean for us. WORK!, and more work as now we have a new beginning where doors that were closed to us can now be knocked on and hopefully opened. We hope we are greeted with open arms.
Sylvia made this happen. I sit in awe of the hours she put in and paperwork and the RULES. You all know us, and me well I don't conform well to rules. I am up for the challenge. I made a commitment and I hope I do it proud.
So change is imminent. First battle is fund raising and now donations are tax deductible. Many have seen that gorgeous building we call the barn. Many know how any room here we have surrendered to multiple dogs (many times) with the thought "What's one more." Now we hope to give them their own perfect cozy safe place. No more china and crystal in the formal dining room. How cool would it be for a mom to have their own whelping room, without the traffic of this house. Or for adopters to sit instead of stand around a whelping box.
This house has served an army of unwanted refugees and it has been lived in. We have opened doors to angels that were sent to help. Our hearts have been full, our bank account empty and still we were always provided what it was we needed to keep, keeping on. Our lives are richer for the experience, the meeting, the moments when a family walks in and sees "the dog or pup" they have been hunting and waiting for. When I speak of the moments of pure joy this is it. Mouths open, eyes twinkles, breath stops, it's quiet, and then everyone becomes real in a rush of excitement and silliness, and it just a moment, but what a sight to behold. It keeps us doing what we do. That's what we get to witness. Totally awesome.
We hope in 2010 with our new 501c3 status and name,
CONNECTICUT LABRADOR RESCUE INC. that simple continued baby steps with help from supporters and friends we have and ones we haven't made yet that we will obtain our goal of remodeling the barn before the next winter season brings the first snowfall. Now that would be a miracle. I am no extreme makeover artist and I know it won't be done in a week but we do believe and we do have faith that if we build it , you will come.
May doG bless us on our journey this year.
